What is an Elopement?
I'm sure you've seen in your wedding groups on Facebook all of the hype around elopements. But what exactly is an elopement? Is it what everyone assumes? Booking a flight to vegas, getting wasted and marrying some stranger in a Vegas chapel? I mean, it certainly can be, but it doesn't need to be.
For me it's simple; elopements are about celebrating your love. How you choose to celebrate that love is entirely up to you and your partner. Do you want to take a trip to California, get married at San Fran City Hall, and drive out to the Redwoods? Oh wait, I did that with Steph and Ryan!
Sorry... back to explaining.
But seriously, think of how you want to celebrate your love! It can be on top of a mountain, on a beach, in your backyard, your grandma's garden, or wherever you want it to be. Does it have to be "quick and easy"? Of course not! Some elopement celebrations last three days! Be true to yourself and to your partner. Elopements also don't mean that you can't bring people with you. I do, however, often call these intimate weddings. You don't have to feel guilted into doing anything you don't want to do!
I hope that when you are thinking about eloping, you are also thinking about how you want to celebrate your love with your person! You have found your person and now it is time to start this amazing and beautiful journey together. Do what is best for you!
